Mini Reviews

2019 Land Rover Discovery Sport R-Dynamic SE 2.0 Front.jpg

Land Rover Discovery Sport

Likes: Classier style inside and out. Available 5+2 seating with rugged off-road capability known by Land Rover.

Dislikes: Third row seat leaves virtually no boot space when in place. Also, it's best left for kids.

Overall: The entry-level Land Rover is classier with update.

2019 BMW X5 M50d Automatic 3.0.jpg

BMW X5

Likes: Improved styling inside out. Eight-cylinder engines are outrageously fast. The one 4x4 that defies logic.

Dislikes: Third row seat is cramped. It can get quite expensive. It doesn't look much differ from previous generation.

Overall: The optional Laser LED Headlights look dazzling but are costly to add.

Jaguar F-pace SVR

Likes: Outrageous eight-cylinder engine. Typical British charm that we love about Jag.

Dislikes: The ride comfort on the smaller allow wheels is brutal.

Overall: It's not quick like it's German Rivals but it's a breathe of fresh air.

Volvo XC60 Polestar

Likes: Polestar tuned performance with hybrid low emissions. It's typical classy Swede with a side of weirdness that we love.

Dislikes: It's expensive compared to keen rivals. Also, we question the long-term reliability of the engine and hybrid system.

Overall: Turbos and superchargers working together in a Swedish fashion.

Mercedes GLC

Likes: Restyle has brought more powerful engines and more refined interior. It's very classy for the price point and that's saying a lot for a 'cheap' Mercedes.

Dislikes: Typical German 'stingy' with standard-kit and expensive with options.

Overall: It's classy and much improved.

Short reviews (We sit in them and we critique)

Land Rover Discovery Sport HSE Luxury TD4 2016.jpg

Land Rover Discovery Sport

Likes: The standard turbo engine is smooth but the more powerful output is a welcome addition. Legendary off-road abilities still retained with 5+2 configuration.

Dislikes: The transmission isn't all that refined. Reliability is very iffy. There are so many three-row crossover options that are roomier and cheaper.

Overall: It's not 'sporty' but it is an all round capable option.

Mercedes C-class Coupe

Likes: It has a presence no other car on the road has. Strong range of engines to choose from and available 4-matic all-wheel-drive system.

Dislikes: The price of admission can go from reasonable to jaw dropping quickly.

Overall: It's no BMW 4-series but it does feel classy where it matters the most.

'18 Honda Odyssey.jpg

Honda Odyssey

Likes: It's still the champ of minivans. It's much more efficient than before and it certainly is more refined than before.

Dislikes: It's not as stylish or sharp to drive as a Chrysler Pacifica. The push button gear selector on some trims is maddening to use.

Overall: It's the hallmark of minivans. The international version looks really cool.

(Above: The international version of the Odyssey looks way cooler in our opinion.)

Kia Sportage 2.0 CRDi AWD Platinum Edition (IV) – Frontansicht, 21. Februar 2016, Düsseldorf.jpg

Kia Sportage

Likes: Both engines are more than up for the job. We love the commanding view and the interior feels very classy for this price segment.

Dislikes: The exterior styling maybe a hit or miss for some.

Overall: One of the most well-rounded crossover out there that no one is buying.

Lincoln MKX II China 2016-04-18.jpg

Lincoln MKX

Likes: The available 2.7ecoboost engine is our favorite of the range. It's smooth to drive with plenty of luxurious features to tack on if desired.

Dislikes: Lincoln tends to get overshadowed by its competition.

Overall: Lincoln is slowly getting its grove back but it's still has a long way to go.

2016 Toyota Prius Two Eco (cropped).jpg

Toyota Prius

Likes: It's the benchmark when it comes to hybrids. It's much roomier than the previous generation and feels much better to drive.

Dislikes: Styling maybe too left-field for some.

Overall: It has the highest 'smug' appeal of any hybrid sold. (Please note: sarcasm was inserted into that comment.)

Worse cars of 2017 (Part two)

Worse cars of 2017 (Part two)

Dodge Journey
Likes: It offers seven seats at a very low price. The 3.6 six-cylinder engine offers a strong turn of pace and is the best engine to go for.

Dislikes: The 2.4 only comes with an ancient four-speed auto and no all-wheel-drive option. Resale value is just as low as reliability ratings. Desperately needs a redesign.

Overall: It may be cheap to buy but your investments aren’t well protected.

Land Rover Discovery Sport HSE Luxury TD4 2016.jpg

Land Rover Discovery Sport
Likes: It’s the only vehicle in its class with a third-row seat offered. You can drive it off-road with pure confidence.

Dislikes: The engine isn’t really up for the job. Road dynamics aren’t great and reliability is still iffy.

Overall: It’s the sleekest looking money pit.

2014 Washington Auto Show (12141232626).jpg

Cadillac Escalade
Likes: Bold in your face styling with a much better feeling cabin. The road presence it has is like no other crossover on the road.

Dislikes: It’s one of the most stolen vehicles. You’ll have to have deep pockets to buy one and pay for the running costs. It’s very cumbersome to drive.

Overall: You’d buy it because you want a Cadillac. Everyone else should consider Audi, Mercedes and even Volvo for their seven seat crossover needs.

Jeep Patriot.jpg

Jeep Patriot
Likes: The exterior is uniquely Jeep. The interior is roomy for five with a decent boot. The starting price is cheap with huge discounts available.

Dislikes: Bitterly disappointing in everything else.

Overall: The recently redesigned Compass is a far better choice.

Nissan Versa Note
Likes: The boot space is generous and the overall cabin is roomy for five. Running costs are decent and it’s easy to maneuver around town.

Dislikes: The engine and steering suffer on faster paced roads. The interior isn’t that great compared to some keen rivals.

Overall: We loved the Versa Note when it was first launched, but it’s worth waiting for the redesigned version to come.
