'Coming out' to your parents

In its most general sense, a fair use is any copying of copyrighted material done for a limited and “transformative” purpose, such as to comment upon, criticize, or parody a copyrighted work. Such uses can be done without permission from the copyright owner.

The reason I say 'coming out' is because someday I hope the phrase 'coming out' no longer has to be used. People who are in the LGBT Community should be allowed to be themselves and not have to make such declarations. We are not diseased animals.

Consider the timing. If you’re going to spill the beans at Thanksgiving, do it after dinner, not before or while you’re passing the cranberry sauce. Someone’s gone to a lot of trouble to cook this meal, so first enjoy the turkey, and then raise the topic at the appropriate time.

The problem with this is the timing will never be perfect. You could plan out how you’re going to do the whole ‘coming out’ process but the results will never be the way you anticipate because well ‘shit’ happens and that’s life. I will use my example of ‘coming out’. I was in high school and I got caught looking at gay porn on the computer. My dad asked me why I was looking at these photos and well, I had to ‘come out’ to my parents. It wasn’t ‘planned’ and it wasn’t ‘great timing’ but it forced me to face my fears and stand up strong as a person.

Determine whether this is the right time. Do you still live under your parents’ roof or rely on them to cover expenses such as your education, clothes, car payments, gas money or insurance? If you think they’ll be reasonable in their reaction to the news, then go for it, but if you think they might try to use this in some way as leverage against you (for example, restricting who you can see or even perhaps cutting you off financially), then waiting until you’re no longer dependent on your parents might be a better time to come out to them.

Again, there is never a ‘right time’ to ‘come out’ to your parents. I do agree though, that if you know your parents are going to cut you off financially that you should wait until you are fully independent to do so. I however, encourage everyone that fears ‘coming out’ to face your fears head on. It’s a very liberating feeling to ‘come out’ and shouldn’t be feared because you can’t change who you are and shouldn’t if you aren’t harming others or detrimental to society.

Be in a good place in your life. Be comfortable and confident with who you are. I came out to my parents after I had learned that my boyfriend of 18 months was cheating on me with another friend of mine. I was heartbroken and tired of living a lie, so I made the mistake of choosing that moment to come clean. Do not spill your guts when they are already tied up in knots. Showing your parents how miserable you feel at the moment is only going to reinforce their imagined fears that you’ll end up living a sad and lonely life.

I’m going to use my ‘coming out’ a lot but it’s a little bit of proof that not everyone will have the same ‘circumstances’. I certainly wasn’t ready to ‘come out’ and I knew in my guts that if I lied to my parents about looking at ‘porn’ that was primarily men on men that the results wouldn’t be good either way. It forced me to face my fears even though it took my parents a while to ‘accept it’ but they eventually came around. The whole stigma of ‘coming out’ isn’t easy and it won’t be. I understand that it’s good to come out when you’re confident in yourself and are in a ‘good place’ but we all won’t have those circumstances and being able to face reality whether good or bad is proof how of strong of a person you are.

It’s your parent’s job to worry about your wellbeing. They will be worried about you whether you are gay or straight. It’s the rest of the world out there that makes it hard to be yourself if they don’t ‘understand’ it. No one chooses who they are attracted to and it shouldn’t be treated as such.

Be realistic and anticipate what their reactions will be. Parents can sometimes surprise you and may not have any issues at all. They may even embrace you for being honest with them. But if they are socially conservative and proud members of Pat Robertson’s 700 Club, don’t expect them to trade in their membership card for a PFLAG T-shirt anytime soon. Be prepared with what you’re going to say and how you’re going to respond to their reactions.

I’m going to answer this as if I am a parent and my child was ‘coming out’ to me. It’s hard ‘coming out’ to your parents and I understand the fear of rejection and the lack of acceptance, but as I stated earlier I’m going to answer this as a parent. I would feel like a complete and utter failure as a parent if I didn’t accept my child for who they are, if they aren’t harming other people or being a detriment to society. I personally would embrace this with my child and continue loving my child. It saddens me that there are parents who feel that they have to disown their child because they ‘come out’ as gay, lesbian or bisexual. You don’t choose your sexual orientation and you shouldn’t treat someone as if they did.

Arm yourself with answers ahead of time. There isn’t a concern that your parents could voice that hasn’t already been discussed in dozens of articles and blogs online. You’ll find some great suggestions on how to phrase your answers that will make you sound like Einstein. You know your parents better than almost anyone else, and if you anticipate their concerns, you can be ready with some answers that will be hard for them to dispute.

It’s already hard as it is to ‘come out’ to your parent, let alone sit there and be drilled about why you’re attracted to the same-sex. The answer is no one knows why they’re attracted to the same-sex and it certainly shouldn’t be treated as such. You don’t see ‘straight’ kids ‘coming out’ to their parent as ‘straight’ and their parents asking them a million questions about their heterosexuality, the same should apply here. I understand questions will rise but not in the moment of your child ‘coming out’. It should be their moment and what they need the most is their parents to be supportive and loving.

Be ready for the “hellfire and damnation” argument. If your parents are nonreligious, skip to #7. But if they’re anything like my parents were, read on. You probably aren’t going to win this argument in the first conversation, but you can avoid losing it. Educate yourself with some basic answers to what you know will be their main arguments. They may not comprehend what you’re saying or even agree with you if they do, but at least they’ll know you have given this a lot of thought, and you’ll know how to respond to them in later conversations.

I’m going to show you how to win this argument.

'Homosexual marriages will lead to other unnatural unions.'

Object sexuality does exist and there are tons of people married to landmarks, inanimate objects and including themselves. Polygamy does exist as well. Please don't tell me that your marriage is will be ruined when there are couples who get divorced right after getting married and having the whole marriage annulled like it never happened. It's one thing to want to protect your ideals on marriage and it's another to infringe on the rights of others who have no direct correlation to your life. Gay people deserve the right to be married like everyone else. Marriage is a human right. Bestiality will never be accepted because it is not two consenting adults and to say that this is your way of justifying your hate of others who aren't harming people really shows your ignorance on the subject.

(Side note: I wouldn’t call your parent ignorant no matter mad they make you on the whole topic. But in the general sense of arguing for arguing, this is a strong argument to use.)

‘I think that gay marriage should be between a man and a woman.’

There are many people who feel the same way and that’s fine. You are entitled to your opinion but sometimes your opinion is best kept to yourself. Two men or two women whom love each other shouldn’t have to live their life the way you want them. Love cannot be dictated. Your marriage ideals should be kept to yourself and not forced onto others.

(Side note: Your parents may not fully understand the whole being gay thing but the last thing you want to do is insult them about it. This is generally used as some form of basis in case you do have to defend yourself.)

‘Marriage equality is a threat to the nation’s survival long run.’

What you are saying is; allowing gay marriage means that everyone will turn gay and no one will be having children? Because we all know if you’re looking at the bible for morale you want to revert to the dark ages when man is robot and woman is baby factory. Marriage is a basic human right and I can’t believe that even after the ruling to allow same-sex marriage in all fifty states people somehow think they have to marry someone of the same sex. What are you secretly gay? You can’t convert someone’s sexuality unless you’ve been holding feelings towards the same sex inside.

(Side note: This will be a common argument religious parents will use against you. I wouldn’t call your parent gay themselves for not being accepting, but the rest of the argument is pretty straight forward.)

Do you have any proof of this? I've seen many same-sex couples with children and the children are happy and grow up like every other child. Just because it takes man and a woman can create a child doesn't mean they have what it takes to raise that child. Science even proves that a child can be raised by a single parent or even by a same-sex couple and grow up just like every other child. Denying a child the chance to have a loving and supportive family because it doesn't follow within your guidelines of what a family should be is just plain cruel.

And heterosexual couples are just the poster children of what a real marriage should be right? Wrong! They are heterosexual couples who are in open marriages there are heterosexual couples that cheat as well. Get off your high horse and use some common sense! You put heterosexuality on a silver platter like it goes with no flaws when in reality there many flaws, especially those who use their bible to try and make themselves look better than they are.

Again where is the proof? Your bible surely doesn't say you shouldn't beat your wife. In fact there are tons of religions that say that it is okay to beat your wife if she doesn't submit to your sexually or if she doesn't do what you tell her to. There are heterosexual couples who exhibit domestic violence and often display it in front of their children and it has a negative impact on them because they see this and think that it is perfectly okay to do when they are older and in a relationship with someone. Domestic violence is not okay in anyway shape or form, but to blame this on same-sex couples and say they are most likely to exhibit this is just down right cruel. You really do have your information completely obscured and just want to make your religion and bible look so much more better than it really is.

This statement really does make me angry because it is completely and utterly untrue. Just because someone is gay doesn't mean that they want to molest children! Stay calm, even if your parents aren’t. You might have someone like Sally Field for a mother — her reaction to her son being gay was, “So the f*#% what?!” — but if your parents are more like mine, be ready for them to get angry, melodramatic and downright cruel. Don’t join in. Keep your cool and be the rational adult in this encounter.

You have to stand your ground even if it is against your parents. You didn’t choose to be gay and it shouldn’t be treated as such. The reason I listed the arguments above was to be used as some sort of educational value to display how ridiculous these arguments can be when trying to dictate someone’s life. It’s one thing if you are going around murdering people, raping people or physically harming others. We cannot live in a society where people are going around harming others, you will be deemed a detriment and should be locked away or given the help you need (mental health is a real issue that shouldn’t be ignored.)

Secondly, it’s human nature to get defensive when you feel you are being attacked; even if it is your parents. Let’s say the conversation gets heated. The best thing you can do is walk away and talk when emotions are running high, you will say something you’ll regret and vice versa. Yes the bible will be used and yes they will try to manipulate you to be something you’re not, all you can do is stand your ground and use the arguments listed in the previous question in the most non-insulting way possible.

Their approval or permission is not required. Don’t expect too much from your parents right away. It’s taken them a lifetime to believe what they believe, and that’s not going to change in one conversation, and maybe not even in 100 conversations, so try not to measure the success or failure of your first coming out conversation by their initial response. If it’s not what you had hoped for, don’t despair and don’t give up. Give them time, but do not give them the impression that you’re asking for their approval or permission. This isn’t about them. It’s about you and who you truly are. Show them that you are the same person they’ve always loved, just more honest now.

I’ll keep this one short. The best thing you can do is ‘come out’ and if it goes well, progress from there. If it doesn’t, keep being yourself and eventually they will come around. Some people have a hard time understanding the whole ‘gay’ thing because it’s been such a taboo topic when they were growing up.

Know when and how to make your exit. When I came out to my parents, there was a lot of anger and drama, and I was hurt that they weren’t welcoming this news with open arms. So I took the old “frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn” approach and stormed out. Thought it felt pretty good, it wasn’t very effective. You might consider a less dramatic exit line. It’s important to be sensitive to what they may be feeling and put yourself in their shoes. Their concerns may be all over the map, from, “Will we ever have grandchildren?” to, “Please, God, don’t let my son get AIDS.” Whatever happens, try to leave the door open, even if you or your parents feel like shutting it.

A car dealership will try to sell you a car regardless if you can or can't afford it. I strongly suggest doing your homework before going into a car dealership and know exactly what you can and can't afford. You don't want to put yourself in a financial crunch paying for a car that you cannot afford. A car dealership will hype the car up because they want the sale and want you to pay the most as possible because the more money you spend the more profits they make in return. Yes, they will make the car look lavish and awesome until the first payment is due.

Im buying my first car tomorrow?

Listen to me when I say this. Do not! I repeat do not go to a dealership by yourself! Car dealerships love consumers such as yourself who has no clue about buying a car. They will take advantage of your lack of knowledge and put you in a auto loan that you can't afford. I strongly suggest taking someone who has experience buying a car and knows exactly what you should and shouldn't buy. Also, someone that knows if you're being taken advantage of. IS it possible to import a Mercedes X class into the US?

I agree with you. It would make a lot of sense if Mercedes sold the X-Class here along with the commercial vans they sell. However, I strongly suspect that the reason Mercedes isn't going to sell the X-Class here has to do with the simple fact that it would cost a lot of money to make it street legal here in the U.S. Also, the X-Class would be far too expensive compared to the Ford F-150 and Dodge Ram pickups that dominate U.S. sales. Lincoln tried to sell a 'luxury pickup' and failed miserably.

I'll answer this question as if I were getting ready to buy a new car today. I would choose a Kia Sportage EX. It only comes with an automatic gearbox. Color, I'd choose blue. Body style, well it's an SUV of course.


Why is 2014 3X more expensive than 2012?
I found a 2012 MB S-class for $10k but can't find a 2014 S-class for less than $30k. Why are they so expensive??

The cheapest BMW X3 I found was $11K and the most expensive going as high as $23k. BMW tends to hold onto their value a lot better than Mercedes. However, I strongly suggest if you are considering an X3 to go for the more basic version. BMW tends to shove a ton of technology into their vehicles like Mercedes. The more tech the more prone to reliability issues you'll have, and the higher your repair bills are going to be. The Mercedes S-class has dreadful resale value because most tend to get rid of them after the lease is up and buy another one. Luxury cars tend to fall apart after warranty because of all the tech that's shoved in them and most (not all) tend to not really take care of them.

Should I sell my car now?
I have a nissan Alt 150,000 miles and I honestly want a Nissan 370Z. Some of my friends are saying sell my car now for the 370 but I’m thinking I should just wait till my car breaks down then get it.

Sell now!! Get rid of the car while it still working and you'll able to get something back from it if you are trading in at a dealership. You'll make more money selling yourself privately. However, don't wait until it breaks down. It will be harder to get rid of the car and you'll get far less for it in terms of value.

BMW or Mercedes and why?
I like BMW because aesthetically and performance wise it is closer to a spy mobile then a Mercedes which seems more like a limousine to me.

I'd go with BMW (3-series touring) over Mercedes. I honestly think the 3-series touring is the best BMW they have in their range and it's sad that they won't be selling them here in the U.S. after 2019. The 3-series touring is sporty to drive. It has a roomy interior and is all the car you'll ever need without compromising to an SUV or sedan. I like Mercedes products but they've never been eye appealing to me, and also they tend to be very problematic.

I need to get car repod. I plan on buying a car 3 weeks after the repo . Do i have to be worried? Im 20 btw.?

I don't think you understand the severity of getting your car repoed. When your car is repoed, the bank sells the car at an auction and you're stuck paying the remaining balance. Not only are you left with the balance but you are also left with a huge negative impact on your credit score. They (banks) will see this on your credit history and not want to give you an auto loan, or if they do it will be very high interest rates. I strongly suggest sitting down and figuring out your financial situation first and see ways that you can get out of your lease or loan to avoid repo.

Death of Rey Rivera

The body of Rey Rivera was found on May 24, 2006, inside the historic Belvedere Hotel in the Mount Vernon neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland. Although the event was ruled a probable suicide by the Baltimore Police Department, the circumstances of Rivera's death are mysterious and disputed. Rey Omar Rivera was born on June 10, 1973, to Angel and Maria Rivera. At the time of his disappearance, Rivera was a 32-year-old finance writer for The Oxford Club as a video contractor. Rivera and his wife Allison had relocated from California to Baltimore to work for his longtime friend Porter Stansberry as a writer and videographer for Stansberry's investment company, Stansberry & Associates Investment Research, a subsidiary of Agora Publishing. Rivera had stopped working for the company six months prior to his death in May 2006, but according to Stansberry, did freelance work for another subsidiary of Agora Publishing. Rivera went missing from his residence on May 16, 2006, after receiving a phone call from the Agora Publishing switchboard, according to a guest staying at the Rivera home at the time. After several days of searching for clues on Rivera's whereabouts, his wife's parents found his car located in a parking lot off of Saint Paul Street in Mount Vernon near his workplace. Rivera's coworkers went to the top of a parking structure near where the car was discovered, and noticed a hole in the roof of the south wing of the Belvedere Hotel. Police soon discovered Rivera's partially decomposed body inside the conference room under the roof's hole. As police began to analyze the case, numerous aspects seemed odd about Rivera jumping off the main roof of the Belvedere Hotel. Partly due to the hotel's mansard roof, there was a considerable horizontal distance between the hotel tower and the location of the hole in the lower roof. An additional theory is that Rivera may have jumped from a ledge several floors below the roof, but it would have been difficult for Rivera to access the ledge from the privately owned condominiums and offices that had windows onto the ledge. Rivera's eyeglasses and phone were found relatively intact on the lower roof near the hole. Because circumstances surrounding the incident are unclear, the medical examiner marked Rivera's manner of death as "undetermined". According to Stansberry's publicist, "There was no gag order or direction given to employees to not speak to the press, law enforcement or any other party." After searching the house for evidence, Allison found a note behind Rivera's computer. The confusing note included the names of prominent figures in Hollywood, movie titles, Freemasonry quotations, and additional ramblings. The Federal Bureau of Investigation analyzed the note and ruled it not to be suicidal in nature. Police would soon step back from their investigation into the case after ruling Rivera's death as a probable suicide. In 2021, new theories about the case emerged in a new investigation carried out by the forensic expert, Miryam Moya, which invalidates the theory of suicide, focusing on the hit-and-run as a possible cause of death. Per WBAL-TV, Rivera had been interested in the Masonic order before his disappearance, reading several books on the topic and even meeting with a member. Some of his verbiage in the note appears to be a reference to Freemasonry — most notably his opening phrase, "Whom virtue unites, death will not separate." He also listed a number of shows, movies, and books as well as a long list of family members and celebrities he wanted to make "five years younger." As such, Redditor GoldenR16180 postulated that Rivera may have written the note because Freemasons are not supposed to share their organization's secrets. His audience is "the Freemasons, and the quotes, movies and names all are nods to the secret traditions of the Masons," the user theorized. They even had an explanation for the blank check found with the letter, guessing that it was meant for Rivera's initiation fee.

Redditor sammyfearless had a similar theory, guessing that Rivera was writing a speech (though not necessarily one meant for the Freemasons). "The writing is stylized in a way that makes more sense and seems more lucid when spoken," they wrote in part. "The opening is very dramatic, much like how you would give a speech. The ending is also dramatic and seems to invite applause from an audience."

Among the movies Rivera mentions in his note is David Fincher's The Game, which follows a banker named Nicholas Van Orton (Michael Douglas) who eventually jumps off the roof of a building after getting embroiled in an elaborate scheme. Redditor zumalightblue theorized that Rivera was acting out the movie, but Unsolved Mysteries co-creator Terry Dunn Meurer shut that idea down during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Meurer explained that she'd talked with Rivera's wife, Allison — who has spent ample time analyzing the note — about the theory, and she couldn't find a deeper connection. "Rey liked a lot of different types of movies. He was just a guy who was interested in everything," Meurer said. "If he had only ever left just that writing or if it was the only thing he had ever written randomly, then people would be a little bit more suspect."

Considering the meandering nature of Rivera's note, several viewers have theorized that he lived with mental illness. Unsolved Mysteries fan hoursvary guessed that Rivera had something called Truman Show Delusion, which Psychology Today explains is when people believe they are in a TV show-like scenario. Others have hypothesized that Rivera died by suicide after a psychotic break. However, the police told WBAL-TV that Rivera had no history of mental illness, and Rivera's wife doesn't believe it was suicide, either. "[Allison] believes if he was going to [die by suicide], he would have left a note for [her] and for the family explaining why and what was going on," Meurer told Nerdist. "It's rare that somebody that [dies by] suicide doesn't leave a note or people didn’t see it coming... She also said, 'Because Rey was a writer, he would have left a beautiful note.'"

Redditor quartzlizard theorized that the entire note was actually written to spell out the world "HELP," while others put forth the idea that it's written in a code like Gematria. Vrontasaurus wasn't convinced, however, writing in a Google Doc that there are too many meanings when you plug phrases into an online Gematria decoder like gematrix.org. "I'm not saying that Rey *didn't* encode all or parts of the note in Gematria, but I think this is an unhelpful avenue to explore without having further information," the user wrote in part.

Rivera was an aspiring screenwriter, and some viewers have guessed that his note was actually the beginning of a script — something called a tone or mood reel. Meurer told Nerdist that Allison also believes this might be the case and that her late husband was doing research for a screenplay.

Perhaps this cryptic paper wasn't related to Rivera's death at all and was simply his innocuous ramblings. Reddit user e6r6i6c posited that it was a list of passwords, while Lostscribe007 theorized that it was "just a loose collection of notes and nothing more.... Rey didn't know he was going to die the night he was killed or I'm sure if he was going to leave a note with details it wouldn't have been cryptic and confusing." Ultimately, Meurer doesn't think it's worth speculating about. "Allison, who knew Rey and knows that note better than anyone, said to me, 'I know where each of those pieces of that note comes from. What I don't understand is why they're all put together in this letter form,'" she told Nerdist. "So if Allison can't figure it out, and the FBI can't figure it out, I wouldn't even venture a guess."

Porsche Cayenne (History)

The Porsche Cayenne is a series of mid-size luxury crossover sport utility vehicles manufactured by the German automaker Porsche since 2002 (Type 9PA or E1), with North American sales beginning in 2003. It is the first V8-engined vehicle built by Porsche since 1995, when the Porsche 928 was discontinued. It is also Porsche's first off-road variant vehicle since its Super and Junior tractors of the 1950s, and the first Porsche with four doors. The second-generation Cayenne (Type 92A or E2) was unveiled at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show in March following an online reveal. The Cayenne shares its platform, body frame, doors and electronics with the similar Volkswagen Touareg and Audi Q7. It received a facelift in 2014 with minor external changes, and introduced a new plug-in E-Hybrid version, with its public launch at the Paris Motor Show. Since 2008, all engines have featured direct injection technology. The third generation (Type PO536) was unveiled in 2017 at Stuttgart. The Cayenne is the first Porsche assembled outside of Europe, in Kulim, Kedah, Malaysia. Only the base model 3 liter V6 is assembled in Malaysia, while other models are imported from Slovakia. The Porsche Cayenne entered the market to a mixed reception, but it proved itself to have excellent performance for an SUV and had comparably good handling as well as powerful engines. The lineup initially consisted of the V8-powered Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo. Later in the model cycle, VR6 and diesel-powered versions joined the lineup. The base model is powered by a VW 3.2-L VR6 engine producing 250 PS (184 kW; 247 hp). The intake manifold is unique to Porsche, but otherwise the engine is largely the same as the VW engine. Introduced only for 2006 (as a pre-GTS concept), the Cayenne S Titanium Edition was a one-year exclusive, limited production SUV featuring a lightweight steel body, featuring an aluminium hood (lighter than the one equipped on the Cayenne S), titanium-painted accented body parts, side lower rocker body panels, Sport-Quad Tip Exhaust chrome tailpipes, 19" titanium painted alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlights, two-tone interior upholstery, Porsche PCM 2.0 w/ trip computer navigation, MP3 audio and Bose cabin surround sound. Under the hood, improvements included sport-tuned suspension, an aerodynamic body package, low-range transfer case, locking differential and a 6-speed automatic Tiptronic transmission. The Cayenne S Titanium Edition is powered by the same 4.5L V8 engine that powered the Cayenne S - still producing 340 hp (254 kW; 345 PS) and 310 lb⋅ft (420 N⋅m) of torque. Acceleration is even quicker than the regular Cayenne S from 0–60 mph (0–97 km/h) at sub 6.2 seconds and the top speed is 150 mph (241 km/h)+. The GTS is powered with a 405 PS (298 kW; 399 hp) 4.8 L V8 and features a sport suspension and 21-inch (533 mm) wheels. It is lighter than the Cayenne S and has an aerodynamic body kit. The Porsche Cayenne GTS has a 0–100 km/h (62 mph) time of 5.7 seconds. A six-speed manual transmission is also offered. The first-generation Cayenne Turbo has 450 PS (331 kW), and can accelerate from 0–100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.6 seconds.[5] A Turbo S version was built in 2006 to compete with the Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG. The Cayenne Turbo and Turbo S include a low-range case, a locking differential, and height-adjustable, off-road suspension. The Turbo S is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.5 L V8 that produces 521 PS (383 kW; 514 hp) and 720 N⋅m (530 lb⋅ft) of torque; Acceleration from 0–60 mph (97 km/h) takes 5.0 seconds and the top speed is 167 mph (269 km/h); It features a six-speed automatic Tiptronic transmission. In 2008 an updated Turbo model, featuring a larger 4.8-L engine, was revealed at the Beijing Auto Show. It produces 500 PS (368 kW; 493 hp) more power, and can accelerate from 0–60 mph (97 km/h) in 4.9 seconds.[7] Also revealed with the new Turbo, was a new 550 hp (410 kW) Turbo S model. Acceleration from 0–60 mph (97 km/h) for that car takes 4.7 seconds and it can be had with optional ceramic composite brakes. Porsche has sold a diesel version of the Cayenne, powered by a 3.0-L V6 VW TDI engine, since February 2009. The engine is rated at 240 PS (177 kW; 237 hp) and 550 N⋅m (410 lb⋅ft) of torque. The car was unveiled at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show. The diesel can accelerate from 0–60 mph (97 km/h) in 8.2 seconds. The Cayenne S Transsyberia was originally a racing vehicle designed for Transsyberia rally, only 26 were built. The street version was later built to commemorate Porsche's victory in the Transsyberia rally. It is a variant with the 399 hp (298 kW) direct-inject 4.8-L V8 from the Cayenne GTS. Sales began in January 2009, with a targeted production run of 600 road vehicles worldwide (285 for North America), but far fewer were actually built (102 for USA, 17 for Canada including 3 which were 6spd manual). In May 2009, a limited edition version based on the Cayenne GTS was introduced, designed by Porsche Design Studio and included a Porsche Design chronograph Type P’6612. Production was limited to 1000 units, 100 in the USA.

The second-generation Porsche Cayenne went on sale in April–May 2010 as a 2011 model, with an official debut at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. In preparation for the unveiling, the Cayenne production facility in Leipzig, Germany, closed in December 2009 to commence factory retooling for the new model, a process that took 2–3 months. The 2011 Porsche Cayenne is larger than its predecessors, but features a more slanted rear window, less upright windshield, a more sloping roofline, door-mounted mirrors, smaller windows at the rear of the vehicle, headlights inspired by the Carrera GT, taillights that extend onto the car's tailgate, LED daytime running lights and a vastly redesigned interior much like the Panamera. The 2011 Cayenne is almost 250 kg (551 lb) lighter than the previous models due to removing the low-range transfer case making it slightly more fuel efficient than the previous lineup. More use of aluminium and magnesium too helped shave weight. Despite its lower stance, the new vehicle's off-road capabilities have been retained without compromising the street performance-oriented layout and design. In addition to a diesel offering, a hybrid version is available. Also, model year 2013 - 2016 diesel Porsche Cayennes are included in the Volkswagen emissions scandal. Standard features of the 2011 Porsche Cayenne include air conditioning with dual-zone climate controls, interior air filter, tilt/telescopic leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio controls, cruise control, leather upholstery, eight-way power front seats, outside-temperature indicator, and universal garage door opener in the base model. The Cayenne S adds a power sunroof and memory for the driver's seat. The Cayenne GTS added an optional rearview camera, keyless access and start, and memory system. Finally, the most upscale Cayenne Turbo and Turbo S added a navigation system with voice recognition, optional four-zone climate controls, heated rear seats, premium sound system with six-disc CD changer. The Cayenne's naturally aspirated and turbocharged V8 engines are shared with the Panamera and have been upgraded for faster acceleration times with more horsepower and torque, as well as more powerful direct-injection technology to improve efficiency. The base Cayenne model Cayenne is tuned to offer 300 hp (224 kW). The Cayenne comes powered by a 3.6-L VR6 engine producing 300 PS (221 kW; 296 hp), the Cayenne S features the same 4.8-L V8 in the Panamera S models producing 400 PS (294 kW; 395 hp) and the Cayenne Turbo comes with Panamera Turbo's 4.8 L twin turbo V8 producing 500 PS (368 kW; 493 hp). The Cayenne S Hybrid uses an Volkswagen-sourced 3.0-L V6 engine producing 333 PS (245 kW; 328 hp), paired with a nickel metal hydride battery capable of 47 PS (35 kW; 46 hp), for a total of 380 PS (279 kW; 375 hp). A manual gearbox serves as the standard transmission system on the base Cayenne, with all other models featuring an eight-speed Tiptronic as standard equipment. The low-range transfer case found in the previous generation has been removed. All vehicles will feature about 10% less weight than their predecessors, 70 kg worth of standard equipment in excess of that found on the current model and a more heavily contoured rear bench. In September 2012 Porsche announced the Cayenne S Diesel. This model is fitted with the Volkswagen 4.1-L V8 TDI engine. In October 2012, Porsche confirmed the addition of a new Cayenne Turbo S. In July 2014, Porsche launched a facelifted Cayenne range, with minor exterior alterations and new power-train options, including a plug-in E-Hybrid and downsizing of the S model's 4.8-L V8 to a turbocharged 3.6-L V6. At the IAA 2005, Porsche announced it would produce a hybrid version of the Cayenne before 2010 (Porsche Cayenne Hybrid). Two years later, at the IAA 2007, Porsche presented a functioning Cayenne Hybrid and demonstration model of the drivetrain. Notable modifications to this car include an electric vacuum pump and hydraulic steering pump, allowing the car to function even when the engine is deactivated. A 288-volt nickel metal hydride battery is placed under the boot floor, occupying the space normally used for a spare tire. The S Hybrid was launched in the U.S. market in November 2010. In July 2014, Porsche announced the launch of the Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid, a plug-in hybrid with an all-electric range between 18 and 36 km (11 and 22 mi) under the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) standard. The plug-in model displaced the Cayenne S Hybrid from the line up, and it is part of the revised range. The Cayenne S E-Hybrid is the first plug-in hybrid in the premium SUV segment, allowing Porsche to become the first automaker with three production plug-in hybrid models. Deliveries in Germany were scheduled to begin in October 2014. Sales in the U.S. began in November 2014. On 1 May 2017, a 2017 Porsche Cayenne S Diesel set the Guinness World Record for heaviest aircraft pulled by a production car. The Cayenne towed a 265-ton Air France Airbus A380 to a distance of 42 meters, breaking the previous 2013 record of a Nissan Patrol towing a 170-ton Ilyushin Il-76 to a distance of 50 meters. After the attempt Porsche repeated the test using a petrol-powered Cayenne Turbo S with 800 Nm of torque, 50 Nm less than the S Diesel, in an effort to prove the Cayenne's remarkable ability.

The third-generation Porsche Cayenne, which was redesigned from front to back and now bears more of a resemblance to the 911, was revealed on August 29, 2017, as a 2019 model, based on the Volkswagen Group MLB platform. A model with a more rakish roofline called the Cayenne Coupé became available in 2019. It was revealed during the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show in April 2019. At launch, there were two models, the Cayenne Coupé and Cayenne Turbo Coupé. In June 2021, a Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT lapped 7:38:925 at Nürburgring Nordschleife. The car was driven by test driver Lars Kern. On June 30, 2021, Porsche introduced the Cayenne Turbo GT version. It uses a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine and claimed 0–100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.3secs/0–60 mph (97 km/h) in 3.1secs. It is equipped with 22-inch wheels with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres.[38] Ride height is 18mm lower and total vehicle height is 30mm lower.
