Land Rover Discovery Sport

Likes: Classier style inside and out. Available 5+2 seating with rugged off-road capability known by Land Rover.

Dislikes: Third row seat leaves virtually no boot space when in place. Also, it's best left for kids.

Overall: The entry-level Land Rover is classier with update.

















BMW X5

Likes: Improved styling inside out. Eight-cylinder engines are outrageously fast. The one 4x4 that defies logic.

Dislikes: Third row seat is cramped. It can get quite expensive. It doesn't look much differ from previous generation.

Overall: The optional Laser LED Headlights look dazzling but are costly to add.




Jaguar F-pace SVR

Likes: Outrageous eight-cylinder engine. Typical British charm that we love about Jag.

Dislikes: The ride comfort on the smaller allow wheels is brutal.

Overall: It's not quick like it's German Rivals but it's a breathe of fresh air.
















Volvo XC60 Polestar

Likes: Polestar tuned performance with hybrid low emissions. It's typical classy Swede with a side of weirdness that we love.

Dislikes: It's expensive compared to keen rivals. Also, we question the long-term reliability of the engine and hybrid system.

Overall: Turbos and superchargers working together in a Swedish fashion.


















Mercedes GLC

Likes: Restyle has brought more powerful engines and more refined interior. It's very classy for the price point and that's saying a lot for a 'cheap' Mercedes.

Dislikes: Typical German 'stingy' with standard-kit and expensive with options.

Overall: It's classy and much improved.

Top picks for luxury 4x4s

Audi Q7

Likes: The interior has been vastly improved along with on-road dynamics and seating space for seven.

Dislikes: Typical bland Audi design cues. The TDI is greatly missed.

Overall: It drives way better than it looks.



Jaguar F-Pace

Likes: It's striking to look at and to drive. The supercharged six-cylinders are fast but the diesel makes the most sense financially.

Dislikes: The infotainment system is dreadful.

Overall: Jaguar is moving into a direction that we are loving.



BMW X5

Likes: This crossover quite literally defies logic with its excellent road holding manners and powerful range of engines.

Dislikes: It can get expensive very quickly. Volvo has BMW beat in the style department.

Overall: Wait for the next generation of the X5 which should be around the corner.



Lexus RX

Likes: Refined and powerful range of engines. Interior is very refined and the overall build quality is top notch.

Dislikes: Styling is a little off-putting. It's not all that engaging to drive, hybrid premium over the rest of the range.

Overall: It's all style and dull everything else, but at least it's super reliable and well built.



Maserati Levante

Likes: Sleek styling with an interior that's classy in its own right. The turbo engines offer the oomph you'd expect from Maserati but the practicality of a crossover body style.

Dislikes: It doesn't have the flamboyancy that Maserati is known for. Build quality and some materials used in interior look iffy and feel it too.

Overall: FCA iffy quality ruins what is essentially an excellent crossover.



Porsche Cayenne

Likes: Dare we say the benchmark of performance crossovers? Dynamically and performance wise it defies logic like crazy! Plus the interior is top notch in quality.

Dislikes: There's so to choose from and the best ones start at the GTS and higher. Porsche is stingy on standard kit but the price of admission is seriously expensive.

Overall: The GTS and turbo versions are the creme de la creme of the range.



Tesla Model X

Likes: The styling inside out is a is futuristic and we love it. Comfortable for seven and you can also option for a five-seat version. Insanely quick acceleration and on-road dynamics.

Dislikes: We have yet to test drive one.

Overall: It's expensive to buy but so worth it if you have the means to keep it recharged overnight.

Nissan Versa

Likes: It’s cheap to buy and costs peanuts to run. It has a roomy rear seat and boot.

Dislikes: If you enjoy driving you’ll look elsewhere.

Overall: It maybe the cheapest new car you can buy, but it certainly feels like a penalty box.



Mitsubishi Mirage G4

Likes: It’s cheap to buy and cheap to run.

Dislikes: It’s only for those who want a cheap new car with a long warranty.

Overall: Cheap and cheerful really don’t apply here.



Ford Fiesta

Likes: Despite it being small, this car is loads of fun to drive and doesn’t feel like a penalty box. It has low running costs and ST version with hot hatch capabilities.

Dislikes: Wait for the new version to arrive.

Overall: We suggest waiting for the next generation of the Fiesta to arrive. However, everyone else who can’t wait; we strongly suggest looking at either the 1.6 or 1-liter turbo three-cylinder. You won’t regret either.



 Kia Rio-5

Likes: It’s very versatile for its size with low running costs and high standard features list.

Dislikes: It’s not all that engaging to drive and real world fuel economy is disappointing.

Overall: You can wait for the new one to arrive or you could get really good discounts on one now. We’d suggest going straight for the top of the range SX which has all the bells and whistles.



Toyota Yaris

Likes: It’s probably one of the most reliable small cars on sale, with low running costs and several different trims to choose from.

Dislikes: It still comes with an ancient four-speed automatic. The 1.5 while as efficient as it might be still feels sluggish when the traffic gets faster.

Overall: You’d buy a Yaris because you don’t know about the Ford Fiesta or even the Honda Fit. Both are light years better than the Yaris.
